Note to the Reader

This book consists of two parts. Part I contains a discussion of the various major toxic exposures in the Persian Gulf that may have contributed to the development of Gulf War syndrome. Part II contains personal histories from 24 veterans of Desert Storm, who describe their war experience and its effect upon their health and lives. Some readers may find that they prefer to skip back and forth between the expository material of Part I and the narratives of Part II, a procedure that may make reading the book a more meaningful experience.
