There are those who will dismiss Casualties of Progress as just a collection of anecdotes. But what anecdotes! So compelling that the book is next to impossible to put down, these chronicles of courage, caring, injustice, suffering, persistence, and triumph are told in such depth and with such honesty that their truth is unmistakable. They are truly tales to open eyes and hearts.

From the Foreword In this volume Alison Johnson has collected case histories of patients with a history of chemical injury and resultant sensitivity to chemicals in even very low concentrations. Having seen and evaluated several thousand patients who are now partially or totally disabled from chemical injury, I believe that the public, government agencies, and health professionals should be far better informed of their plight than they have been to date. This information is now available in the present volume, elegantly and clearly presented and edited by Alison Johnson...

Finally, patients need to know that scientific protocols are now available to document both chemical injury and chemical sensitivity. These protocols have been and are being presented by me to professional meetings in Australia, Sweden, Germany, and Chile... I congratulate Johnson upon her videos and her successful effort to present in Casualties of Progress a very complex subject in a concise and compassionate format. Gunnar
